Client: Stevenage Borough Council

Location: Stevenage

As part of Stevenage Borough Council’s £45m investment to refurbish plant rooms and renew the internal pipework at their Elderly People’s Dwellings, we were commissioned to renew internal pipework and install air source heating pumps (ASHP). The Council has prioritised ways of becoming as carbon neutral as possible, so where appropriate we installed ASHPs.

The benefits of ASHPs is that they can extract renewable heat from the air – even in winter – which is used to heat the buildings and the water. While they do need an electricity supply in order to function, they save energy on conventional heating and have a lower carbon footprint. In addition to the ASHPs, we installed heat meters so operations managers can gauge the amount of heat in the building at any time.

On two of the sites, we have also installed solar panels, affording even greater sustainability.
